blairskee (2005-04-05 00:42:00) Thanks Brain. Next year, I take over the world!
snowmugs (2005-04-05 00:35:30) congrats to all winners, see you next year
ownbatnballs (2005-04-01 02:14:39) WOW the final four will be taking place only a few short miles from my house and I can't go have prior commitments to attend to. Oh well I know it will be a great one even though my Kentucky wildcats were beaten by a Michigan state squad that has their hands full against North Carolina that game is going to be the best of the final four...Till next season, everyone enjoy the games and good luck....
swifty (2005-03-26 20:09:11) half time, its a close match I think illinois have a game to play. final will be 88 to 84 Illinois winning AZ has a good team.
dsong (2005-03-24 19:07:35) An upset would be great - and would only add to the appeal of the tournament. One loss and you're out! Harsh, but that's what makes it so mesmerizing.
thulebob (2005-03-24 12:27:03) Looks like a lot of the top players have bet heavy on Illinois winning tonight. Do I smell an upset???? It would definitely tighten up the race.
blairskee (2005-03-20 23:53:42) The NCAA tourney is the greatest sporting event in the nation and this site is the greatest fun. The 4750 mark is just fine; it gives us a very elusive goal that will one day be overcome. Until then, let's enjoy the ride!
MrBrain (2005-03-20 20:06:21) No problem with your computer. We just never set up the basketball contests to allow multiple user groups.
thulebob (2005-03-20 17:38:47) MrBrain, a question for you. I just noticed that I seem to be able to join only one group this year. Is there a reason for that, or is it a problem with the computer that I am currently using?
onecoolcanuk (2005-03-20 11:04:33) "I enjoy just playing the competition"...same here. I am not even eligible to win money so I just play to have fun. I'm kinda glad I forgot to make some picks...I'm sure I have a better score than I would have.
dsong (2005-03-20 01:22:54) Brutal start to the second round, with lots of upsets. Once again, forgetting to put in your picks would have moved you up the leaderboard.
snowmugs (2005-03-19 15:14:41) hey smalts, how have you been?still working at the same place?
thulebob (2005-03-19 12:10:37) Very true, MrBrain, there were still 76 people who still had a mathematical chance of the elusive 4750 points after round 1. After round 2 was done, there were none left who could say the same thing. I'm not complaining, mind you, but merely stating a fact. I enjoy just playing the competition, and if I win some money at the same time, no matter how large or small, it's just an added bonus to this game.
MrBrain (2005-03-19 12:02:55) This year's first round was particularly tough. In previous contests, there were many players within shooting distance of the grand prize after the first round.
dsong (2005-03-19 10:45:25) How about lowering the bar to 3500? Even that is a tough score to achieve... no one's gotten close to even that number.
thulebob (2005-03-19 06:18:38) After the first round, everybody but the leader has no chance whatsoever of reaching 4750 points. And that is only if he get the final 31 correct and bets max the whole way. So it looks like the Grand Prize is safe for yet another year.
blairskee (2005-03-18 23:31:25) Mr. Brain. Whooo. Thought you weren't going to put it together this year. That last second stuff worries me! Thanks for another great contest. 4750 isn't too much; in fact, I had 47.50 last year!
hooper (2005-03-18 20:51:24) Bracket buster Looks like Vermont is taking Syracuse out. First real big upset of tournament.
rcb814 (2005-03-18 13:44:40) mrbrain,,,,,,thanks for the game,,glad i got the email before tourney actually started. not much time to think about the games/percentages (maybe that will help)....goood luck to everyone...i had a good first day,,crossing fingers for rest of tourney

MrBrain (2005-03-17 21:12:14) Welcome back, ProbabilitySports and Newsfutures legend. Good luck!
bhazen (2005-03-17 17:31:54) Hello all. Trying to get that Belt back. Been a couple of years. Lets see what happens.
MrBrain (2005-03-17 17:02:13) Yep, right after me. I've always managed to get my registration in first. Perhaps if some fast typist tries really hard to get theirs in first, I may get beaten one of these contests. :-)
thulebob (2005-03-17 12:22:32) Hey, MrBrain, the games haven't even started and I'm already in second place, right behind you. Guess that actually means is that I was the very first person to sign up this year, eh? Good luck to everyone!!!!
thulebob (2005-03-17 07:59:30) Anyone who wants to join my group, the ID is BESTballers and the PW is march.
thulebob (2005-03-17 07:58:46) BTW, this is my third year here.
thulebob (2005-03-17 07:58:12) STUMANCHU, you can find out how many people have played this game by clicking on Last Year's Contest, which is just below where you log in. MrBrain has all the stats for all four years that this game has been going on. Here are those numbers for the people who played.
2004 - 641 players/Winner had 2540.24 points
2003 - 934 players/Winner had 2487.08 points
2002 - 420 players/Winner had 2401.56 points
2001 - 190 players/Winner had 2251.00 points
This year, I see that there are 526 players so far. Hopefully, there will be a few more to join before today's deadline. I sent out quite a few e-mails yesterday morning trying to get people to join.

MrBrain (2005-03-17 07:44:52) Oh, I see we're "NOW ALIVE!" Thanks! :-)
MrBrain (2005-03-17 07:31:14) Oh, sorry to hear that. We always put our contests together at the last minute now. We're getting pretty efficient at doing that, and then just sending out a mass mailing to past participants.
iSportsLinks (2005-03-17 00:08:06) MrBrain:

You need to open the game earlier. I posted that you were inactive on my website. You have one of my favorite games during March Madness, I would have driven much more traffic too you!

STUMANCHU (2005-03-16 22:56:53) HEY MR BRAIN, JUST CURIOUS: HOW MUCH HAS THE GAME GROWN EACH YEAR? WE HAVE 4 NEW GUYS IN OUR GROUP THIS YEAR, ALONE. HOW MANY PLAYED THE FIRST YEAR YOU DID THIS? BY THE WAY, 4750 POINTS IS JUST FINE. IT'LL TAKE GUTS TO MAKE THE RIGHT PICKS, BUT IT CAN BE DONE
skywalker (2005-03-16 17:16:18) Thanks MrBrain. These probability games are fun and challenging.
Shadowchaser (2005-03-16 17:13:28) is in Wisconsin. Would join a Wis/Mn group.
wako (2005-03-16 15:47:45) anybody
wako (2005-03-16 15:47:17) antbody welcome group name -texans ,password -winners...................................
macadam1 (2005-03-16 15:41:48) I also would like to join a group. Post your group name & password.
In last years football I created a group called "Bragging Rights" with 59 teams; not enough time to do it now.

dsong (2005-03-16 14:52:39) I think you should change the Grand Prize to a more reasonable number... even 3000 points would be extremely tough. 4750?! Considering only one contestant has ever broken 2500, the chances of anyone reaching 4750 is slim and none.
cfitz66 (2005-03-16 13:26:43) Hey mrbrain, it's cool you're still doing this. Thanks again man, we appreciate it.
mmmpj (2005-03-16 12:52:05) I would lik eto join a group ??
